Well...

We're going to miss out on spending the last several days of NaNoWriMo together. Not that I won't be writing - I just won't have the internet. We're going to stay with some friends for the holiday. It's going to be quiet and relaxing and great! I can hardly wait to get on the road. But, alas, no internet.

So, this is my farewell letter for the month. I hope everyone is successful and everyone has a great race to the finish. Me, I have 15,000 words to write before the month ends. Will I make it? Hard to say. I'll let you know!

I've enjoyed NaNo very much (although this blog has certainly NOT been an aid to my wordcount!) and I can't wait to do it again next year. In the meantime, happy writing (frantically) and happy editing!

5000 to go!

That was an easy 2200 words! Abbey went (with Christian!) to the mall to buy some stockings to wear under her uniform. It finally snowed last night and it's cold, cold, cold in those ridiculous skirts. The mall is big and brings back childhood memories for Abbey. In other words, it's a great place to write about! Now Abbey has what she needs, but I'm guessing it's nearly lunch time. Time for some serious flirting with Christian. No, this doesn't further the plot in any way, but it's FUN!

Here's an excerpt for you, since it's been a while. Then I'm off to take pictures of some seriously cute kids!

"Eventually, she had made it to the end of the book. Most of the pages had already been colored on. Someone had taken a blue crayon and scribbled on the last several pages. Abbey had some strong opinions about what should have happened to that person. She decided that she had colored enough and thought she should go turn the book in to someone important. After all, it was done. No other child would want it. So she descended the little ladder and put the crayons back in the bottom of the chest. Then she turned to find her mother."

I'm back

Yesterday didn't kill me so I came back for more! I am now 7200 behind my current goal. At this rate, I either have to sprint or write 2695 words every day. Let the sprinting begin! My goal today is to write as many words as I did yesterday. If I can manage that, I will only be about 4700 behind tomorrow. Not stellar, but better. Eventually I'll get there. Who knows, I may get it all done today.

A poster on my favorite board (bigbadbabynames.net) suggested that a good way to knock out large word counts is just to leave your novel open all the time. That way, you can do 100 words here and 100 words there and get it done before you know it. Today, that's what I'm trying!

Update for the day

Well, I didn't catch up. I guess I didn't think I really would. BUT I gave myself a nice little boost (over 4,000 words today!) so that should help. I predict I'll be caught up in a couple of days and I'm happy with that.

That being said, my hands are sore and I'm going to bed. You'll have to wait for any Abbey updates until tomorrow. Also, you may have to wait for my current wordcount because Blogger is messing up for me. I'll try again, but it's been freezing on the Layout screen all day. Evil program!

Night!

So far...

So good. I've written about 3,000 words today. I'm officially over 30,000! I know that's not where I should be today, but it's a lot more than I had this morning. And I started a new plot thread - Abbey's falling for Christian, Jenna's mischievous older brother. Is this good or bad? I'm not sure. But after seeing Twilight last night (woo hoo!) it seems pretty normal! What's a YA book without any romance?

By the way, Twilight, while it jumped around and was, in some places, totally unconvincing, was HOT! I haven't squealed at a movie that much in years.

This Day

I am 10,000 words behind this morning. I'm not sure how this has happened. But you know what? I'm just not all that worried. I still think I can make it this month. I'm even foolish enough to think that I can catch up today! So, we'll see. It would feel really good to put 10 or more stickers on my chart Monday morning. It would feel really good to be caught up again...maybe even ahead in a couple of days. I think I can do it. Here we go!

Um... Oops?

This weekend ended up being busier than I'd planned. Or maybe I'm just lazier. At any rate, yesterday we had an appointment, some shopping and a long birthday dinner to attend. We had a lot of fun; everything went well, but my writing suffered.

I am officially behind!

So, today, I should be writing frantically to make up my precious word count and give my suffering plot some direction! But I have a whole day of shopping to do instead. Basically, it's me and the computer for about 15 more minutes (at most) and then a whole day of huge outlet malls, two year olds, Christmas present buying and burning off energy.

If I'm alive when I return, I'll write more then. If not...

So, my goal has changed a little. Between now and... Monday night, I want another 5,000 words. That will put me just over the NaNo goal. With any luck, I'll find a way to write on Tuesday and Wednesday as well and I'll have a bajillion words by Wednesday night. Heck, I could even be done by then! (Ha!)

I guess I should stop procrastinating and start writing. Todays scene: Abbey finally gets the package from her mother. Is it significant or just a heartwarming scene? No one knows.
